“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16

God wants to have a relationship with us. Reflect upon that for a moment. The creator of all (plants, animals, humans, oxygen, water, planets, etc.) wants to have a relationship with YOU. The problem is that He is holy and we are not. He is perfect and we are flawed. No matter who you are, your good works do not outweigh your bad deeds. All of us have lied more than we have helped someone. All of us have lashed out at people instead of forgiving them. All of us have judged the motives of others without knowing the entire situation more than we have given them the benefit of the doubt. All of us have shown favoritism to various degrees. All of these sins (there are FAR MORE!) that we have committed have separated us from God.

Despite the fact that this world has committed more atrocities than we can even accurately list, Jesus took all of our sins upon Him at the cross when He cried “it is finished!” (John 19:30). We have to accept Him as our savior though.

How does a person accept Jesus as their savior? First, you have to understand that EVERYONE has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) which means that our works are simply not enough. Again, “it is by grace that we are saved through faith; and not of ourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 10:9-10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Jesus loves all of us and wants to spend eternity with every single person. The gift of salvation is free, but is up to us to take it.
