Sedition, in modern terminology, means rebellion. The Bible gives us many examples of rebellion, and in all cases, they are considered wicked. The most popular incident of sedition in the Bible is Satan's fall. Lucifer led a failed uprising against God in order to overthrow Him (Is. 14:13, Rev. 12:3).

This particular work of the flesh is considered sin because it proposes that those involved know better than God. In 2018, there are groups in America that seek to overthrow President Trump. This is wicked in God's sight because it goes against His commands to obey our officials and the laws of the land. Paul said to "let every soul be subject unto the higher powers... for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour" (Rom. 13:1,6-7). He repeated himself in Titus 3:1 as well.

Did you know that if you rebel against your government, it is the same as Lucifer's rebellion in God's eyes? Look at what Paul said in Romans 13:

"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation" (v1-2)

So what are we supposed to do? Pray for our leaders! If you are unsure how to please God, start here. The Apostle Paul told Timothy:

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." - 1 Timothy 2:1-4

Obeying our leaders does not apply to wicked acts however. For example, if a law states that it is okay to break into a person's home and take their goods, we are not to obey that law because God said that we aren't supposed to steal (Ex. 20:15). During the Nazi regime, it was illegal to help the Jews. God said that we are to help those that are being unlawfully persecuted (Prov. 24:11-12). God used other nations to overthrow the Third Reich - not sedition.

We are to "obey God rather than man" (Acts 5:29), and God said not to commit sedition.
